Keith S. Rucker - Saw Rack

My saw rack is of a very simple design. I took a scrap board (of oak in my case but any wood will do) to work with. The dimensions of the board are not that important, what ever will fit where you want your rack to go. I then simply bored holes at a 1" spacing to hold a wooden dowel. On mine, I used 5/8" dowel (because I had a bunch of them laying around).  If all you are going to use are hand saws, I think I would have used a 3/4" dowel. The 5/8" dowels leave a 3/8" gap for the saw blade while 3/4" dowels would leave a 1/4" gap (assuming 1" between dowels). I think the narrower spacing would hold hand saws a little better than on mine. However, if you are planning on holding back saws, you need the extra space that the 5/8" dowels leave for the back spline to fit into.  The dowels on my rack stand out 4 7/8" from the board, which fits the handles on my hand saws just right. The length of the dowels may need to be adjusted to fit your particular saws.

You can put as many dowels on the rack as you have room for where you are going to put it in your shop. The rack does a great job of holding both saws and squares.
